Zapdos ex is a Special Illustration Rare from the 151 set, carded as 202/165. Because the collector number (202) sits above the set size (165), this card is one of the printings numbered beyond the main set, placing it among the highest art tier cards in the expansion.
The 151 set returns to the original Kanto roster, and Zapdos as one of the legendary birds is a centrepiece of that group. Special Illustration Rares present the Pokemon in full scene artwork that runs across the card face, giving Zapdos far more space and atmosphere than a standard card frame allows.
As an ex card, Zapdos brings the high power and prize trade off of the ex mechanic, though for collectors the appeal is the legendary status and the elevated art rarity. Zapdos collectors and 151 set builders alike look for this card as one of the standouts of the set.
