This is the Japanese Pikachu V-UNION numbered 027/028 from the 25th Anniversary Collection. V-UNION cards are made up of four separate parts that combine on the field to form one large Pokemon, a mechanic that makes them stand out from a standard single card layout.
This is a Triple Rare, one of the premium classifications in the set, presented with the bold holo treatment these cards are known for. The 25th Anniversary Collection was released to celebrate a major milestone for the franchise, which gives every card in it a commemorative feel. Pikachu, the most recognisable Pokemon of all, is a fitting subject for a V-UNION in an anniversary set, and the multi part design lets the artwork spread across the full picture.
Collectors seek the Pikachu V-UNION both for the popularity of the Pokemon and for its place in the anniversary release, making it a centrepiece for a Pikachu binder or a Japanese collection.
