Darkness Ablaze released in August 2020 as the third main set of the Sword and Shield era. It built on the introduction of V and VMAX mechanics, leaning hard into Fire and Darkness archetypes, and remains a favourite among collectors who organise their binders by era. The set runs to 189 cards in the main numbering, with secret rares pushing the count higher, and it is best recognised for its Charizard chase cards alongside a deep cast of Galar region Pokemon.

Pulls from this era still hold up. The artwork leans into bold colour and strong character framing, and the VMAX templates from this period are arguably the cleanest of the Sword and Shield run.
