Collection: Alt Arts

About this collection

What is an Alternate Art?

Alternate Arts (often shortened to Alt Arts) are special variant illustrations of existing Pokemon cards, introduced by The Pokemon Company in the Sword and Shield era and carried through into Scarlet and Violet. Where a regular V or VMAX shows the Pokemon in a clean studio pose, the Alt Art reimagines the same card with full-bleed artwork, narrative scenes, and a different artist signature. The gameplay text stays identical, but the artwork tells a story. That storytelling is exactly why collectors organise entire binders around this rarity tier.

What you will find in this collection

Our Alt Arts collection brings together 65 cards from sets including Evolving Skies, Chilling Reign, Fusion Strike, and Brilliant Stars. You will find chase pieces such as Sandaconda V 252/264, Inteleon VMAX 266/264, and Calyrex VMAX 203/198, alongside collector favourites like Lugia V 186/195 and Giratina V 186/196. The rarity mix spans Ultra Rare V Alt Arts, Secret Rare VMAX Alt Arts (the rainbow and gold variants that sit above the set number), and a handful of GX-era Full Arts such as Pheromosa and Buzzwole GX 192/214 for collectors chasing the older format.

Alt Arts FAQs

What are alternate art Pokemon cards?

Alternate arts are special versions of V, VMAX and VSTAR cards from the Sword and Shield era that show the Pokemon in a full scene rather than a standard battle pose. They are pulled at much lower rates than regular cards, which is why they carry the strongest values of the era.

What are the most popular alternate art cards?

Umbreon VMAX 215/203 from Evolving Skies, known as Moonbreon, is the most famous. Giratina V 186/196 from Lost Origin, Rayquaza VMAX 218/203 and Aerodactyl V from Lost Origin are also heavily chased.

How much do alternate art cards cost?

Alternate arts start around $10 to $30 for less prominent Pokemon and climb steeply for the top chases. Our stock has ranged from about $4 up to $990 for cards like Giratina V 186/196.

Did alternate arts continue into Scarlet and Violet?

The style evolved. Scarlet and Violet sets replaced alternate arts with illustration rares and special illustration rares, which carry the same full scene artwork approach. We stock both, so check our Illustration Rare collection as well.

What condition are your alternate art cards in?

All our singles are raw cards in mint condition or better, inspected by hand for corners, edges, surface and centering. Orders ship tracked from Brisbane in protective holders.
